I recently faced a problem where I have really bad wifi signals at few places in my home, then I remembered I have a extra router laying around in my home, which got me thinking I have two ways to extend the wifi signals in my home.
- Use an Ethernet cable to connect main router to secondary router.
- Use wireless repeater in second router.
I have gone with the 2nd option since for option 1, I have to buy a really long Ethernet cable.
When I successfully setup my second router with wireless repeater, I saw one issue here.
Although I have really good internet speed in my home (300 mbps on my main router), I was only getting around 10-20 mbps on my second router (wireless repeater).
Why is there a huge difference in bandwidth for these two routers?
I have placed the second router near main router but I still get the same 10-20 mbps speed, where as my other devices get 100% of the actual bandwidth which I subscribed for, what is the actual reason for this?
I was expecting the speed to decrease in areas where the signals are less, but the speed is less even in areas with strong signals
