I have a legacy web.config file that declares section handlers as follows:

Below it, there are no such sections in the web.config: not <scriptResourceHandler>, <jsonSerialization>, <profileService>, <authenticationService>, or <roleService>.

My understanding is that declaring these means that the settings from a e.g. <scriptResourceHandler> in web.config will be populated into a System.Web.Configuration.ScriptingScriptResourceHandlerSection object that the code might reference.

So could there be any purpose to declaring such handlers without having such a section in the web.config below these? If I want to remove these sections and sectionGroups, what due diligence do I need to do?
