When invoking split.screen() to make a figure with for example 4 x 6 panels, while just using the first two, the other screens get deleted and the first two panels get expanded to fit the whole page width.
In older versions of R, this was not the case, but at least with version 4.3.3 it is.

Is there a way to keep the empty screens?
