When making block quotes in markdown and on this site you usually use a greater than symbol for each line in a quote. Something like this:

> here is a quote
> and the second line needs a symbol too
> and the line after

Is there an opening and closing markdown option for quotes? Like how three backticks are used for marking the opening and closing of a code block?

I don’t know if Stack Overflow uses markdown
