I use Google Wallet, but have noticed several incorrect transaction records.
Example incorrect records (note that all the transactions were correctly made, it is the transaction record shown in Google Wallet that is incorrect)
Incorrect records of transactions with First Direct debit card
- “George Abbott” (pub) reported initially as “George Abbott school”
- “Blue Cafe” (Surrey, UK) reported initially as “Blue Cafe” (NJ, USA)
- “Your parking space” reported initially as “Yours Clothing”
- “Epsom and Ewell borough council” reported as “EE Ltd”
- “Ryka’s” (cafe) reported as “Old London Road Public Toilets” (!)
Incorrect records of transactions with John Lewis credit card (Newday)
- “MFG HORLEY” (petrol station) incorrectly reported as “Greggs”
- “RONTEC PIPPBROOK” (petrol station) incorrectly reported as “SPAR”
Google includes the phone number of the incorrectly identified business if customers have queries. It seems to me that many wasted hours will be spent calling these numbers. [1]
My guess is that in order to give a quick response, only the first few letters of the name (or address) are matched against all the organisations that Google knows about, resulting in the incorrect matches that I have observed. Later if a full match is achieved and the transaction record is updated.
No phone number was listed for the public toilets! Rykas cafe is next to the public toilets
I suspect that “Epsom and Ewell borough council” is listed somewhere as “EE …”
Has anybody else noticed strange, incorrect transaction records?
These results are comparing GoogleWallet vs the First Direct and John Lewis (Newday) App
