When trying to install Windows in a system with a Original Equipment Manufacturer license tied to your computer’s motherboard, it’s not possible to freely choose what edition of Windows to install.
If changing from the originally installed edition of Windows, say Windows 11 Home Single Language to anything different such as a purchased Windows 11 Pro edition, it used to be that adding some files to the installer Pen Drive or installer media enabled the edition selection menu in the installer.
Starting with 24H2 version of Windows 11, ei.cfg
and PID.txt
seem to be ignored and no longer a useful solution to selecting different Windows editions in the install wizard.
