I’ve just noticed that the website formerly known as Twitter has an annoying habit. I don’t use the app, so rely on a browser. Now that the Xodus is underway, I have other such sites in my general browse list, and I use the back/forward buttons in the browser to go between them. In doing so, I went “Back” to the Twitter site and then discovered my “Forward” button greyed itself out, no longer having a “future-history” of sites I looked at ahead of Twitter.
How can I stop a website doing this? It looks to be independent of browser – same behaviour on Chrome/Edge, and quite obvious as to motivation for doing this.
Oddly, they only seem to do this where the Back button is the entry to Twitter. Behaviour not replicated for the Forward button (I hope they don’t discover this oversight), but question expanded to cover this scenario also.
I wonder if this could be construed as an offence (in the UK) under the Computer Misuse Act? 🙂
