When you get a numeral 2 (“Differential GPS fix … “) in field 6 (“Quality”) of a GGA sentence, does that mean you are getting getting a WAAS correction?
I think the answer is “no”. I have two GPses, both rather old:
Garmin eTrex Legend: It claims WAAS compatibility, but I only get signals from PRNs 32 and under Occasionally I see PRNs 33 and 34, which is supposed to signify WAAS sats according to the manual, but never any signal bars. It is supposed put a “D” in the signal strength bars in the satellite view “when differential correction data has been received”, but I’ve never seen it.
“Byonics GPS-2” puck witha SiRF chipset identifying itself as version “GSW3.2.4Pat2_3.1.00.12-SDK001P1.00”. I never see any PRNs greater than 32, but the GGA “quality” field does read 2, which gpsd seems to interpret as “3D fix”. (gpsd doesn’t seem to show anything signifying WAAS status.)
I’ve looked for any NMEA specs that signify WAAS data, but other than seeing PRNs greater than 32 are there any?
