I used Google Domains as the registrar for my website, and it has been migrated to Squarespace after Google sold off their Domains product. After the transition, a number of things seem to have broken on my website:
- URL bar now shows the IP address rather than the domain name on any page visited (going to the domain i.e.
domainname.com
still brings me to my website, but the URL in the browser is displayed as xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx instead of showing the domain name) - Something with SSL seems to have broken. Browsers no longer show the secure image next to the URL bar and instead display ‘not secure’. I had previously set up SSL certificates directly on my server through Digitalocean and verified the certificate is still active
- SSH/SFTP connections to my server at [email protected] no longer work and had to be updated to [email protected]
- Browsers no longer recognize the website for autocomplete and saved password purposes, as it knows domainname.com and not xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx
All that said, my website still works – I can visit it, use all the pages and functionality as normal, aside from the notes above.
I am a bit outside my area of expertise here and don’t know what I need to do to fix these issues. I contacted Squarespace directly several days ago but have yet to get a response from their support. Very frustrating experience. Hoping to get some help from the community in understanding what the causes for these issues are and how I can resolve.
