I have a problem with my domain registered with Ionos. I have already uploaded content to my hosting but for some reason if I put example.com/defaultsite where example.com is my domain, the Ionos promotional page continues to appear saying that the domain was registered with them which is not supposed to happen if I have already uploaded content to the website, in theory I should see a 404 error if I enter that address.
I don’t know if there is a solution for this or if anyone knows of another well-known hosting provider that doesn’t have this problem so they could transfer everything and leave ionos.
For all those who are trying to solve this problem I found three solutions:
- If you do not want to leave Ionos: Go to Menu > Websites & Stores, scroll down and at the bottom you will see the option that says (Add existing website), you must click there, then an entry will appear where you will have to put your domain that It is redirecting you to the defaultsite, you don’t have to put yourdomain.com/defaultsite, just yourdomain.com. After this you click on (add domain). Pay attention to this step which is important, information related to your page will appear, you must click where it says (Technical Data Manage webspace) and there you will see an index.html file, if you open that file you will realize that it has this (<meta http -equiv=”Refresh” content=”0;url=defaultsite” />), the only thing you have to do is download it in case you want to have a backup copy and then you can delete, rename the file or delete or comment the line which has and that should work.
I don’t know why Ionos makes this so difficult and if you call support they won’t be able to explain to you what the error is that happened to me.
2. This was the one I used because I got angry with Ionos, just look for another hosting service that you want to use, in my case I used hostinger (this doesn’t have to be the one you use, I just took a chance with it because it was another one I knew). After you have hosting with another provider, connect your domain with your new hosting provider so you can use it, wait about 5 to 10 minutes until the DNS is updated (this process can take 24 hours in some cases). do ipconfig /flushdns in cmd, clear your browser’s cache especially for your domain and after this /defaultsite should no longer appear when you visit your domain.
- Simply cancel your Hosting contract with Ionos, open an account with another hosting provider, transfer your domain to your new hosting provider and delete your Ionos account, which should be deleted automatically if you do not have open contracts.
I hope it helps you since there is very little information about this and the Ionos support service in my opinion is not so specialized with certain cases.
