I’m trying to identify the source of a recent unusuall CPU usage on Qnap TS-963X (QTS 5.2.2.2950 Build 20241114). The resource monitor is showing an average of about 95% CPU usage. The external monitoring system (Zabbix via SNMP) is reporting similar values. While accessing fileshares with Windows clients (SMB shares) seems indeed realy slow, unresponsive sometimes. Listing files in folder is very slow (busy icon). In fact, the device is relatively heavy used, a lot of images are processed, read and written.
However, in the terminal, the “top” command does not show such high load reporting about 60% CPU load. Another interesting thing is, I do not see any particular, running process which may cause these issues. The biggest cpu usage is reported for “birdnest” process (15-20%).
Is there a way to find these cpu-killing processes?
What is birdnest process? Is hawkeye, gmond_agent a part of? Are these qnap system integrated components, or am I looking at software left at the server by some (probably) previous admin/owner?
