I have noticed that there are massive inconsistencies for eps values between different tabs in yahoo finance, even for very popular tickers such as MSFT. I am looking at the following pages:
- https://finance.yahoo.com/quote/MSFT/analysis/?p=MSFT
In the first one, the reported eps as of July 30 was 2.95 and this is also consistent with the official 10Q SEC filling. However, in the second page (table earnings history) an eps of 2.69 is reported for the same quarter end. Furthermore, I noticed that the eps est for the next quarter (September 30) is 3.11 in the first page, but the high estimate in the second page is only 2.92 – so the consesus (I assume) estimate would actually lie outside of high-low estimates.
Are these simply errors in the market data of Yahoo (why is this page used so often then??) or are there any understandable reasons for this, e.g. differences in accounting classifications. I am very grateful for any input.
I would expect that historical eps values are consistent within all pages of Yahoo finance and that the consensus eps lies somewhere between low and high, but not above.
