The Brick Wall: Skyrim Creation Kit crashes whenever trying to preview the custom model.
Tried: Using nif optimizer to make Skyrim Special Edition meshes editable (by making them Skyrim Legendary Edition meshes instead), then turning them back once the edit is complete.
Tried: Using a nif export and import addon to blender 3.6 and 3.3 to try and produce a completely custom nif file. Couldn’t get past exporting, as 9 different python errors in the add-on occurred.
Tried: Looking up tutorials on how to make a Skyrim weapon mod. ALL of them are majorly outdated, and didn’t help me.
Tried: Looking up relevant links to other people with similar or the same problems. Got a single link to an unfinished help request of a guy who half had my problems and half didn’t. (different lines of python code were causing errors in the blender addon). needless to say I didn’t get much done there, but it was closure to know I’m not alone. Here’s the link if it helps> https://github.com/niftools/blender_niftools_addon/issues/631 the errors all started with “python traceback (most recent call last)” or something like that.
Hail Mary: hope an angel gets sent down from digital heaven and gives me a divination on how to add cool swords into an old game.
Reward For Helping Me: My deepest gratitude, and a new weapon mod based off of 2 cool weapons from Final Fantasy 9 for Skyrim.
Comments: I’ve been at this for like 3-5 straight days and I’m officially defeated. Also the nif optimizer route seemed like it went the further than the nif blender export route. As far as I can tell, the only things I have to do left for this mod is make my custom nifs actually able to be in SSE Creation Kit without crashing, change the parameters around accordingly in SSE CK, and adjust the models and textures based off of what I see in game. Honestly please someone help me, I did my best to get this far without asking for help online, but clearly I gotta have some help sometimes. And I’m getting sick of the amount of tabs and windows I have open. Maybe I need to change some sort of pathing or I don’t have something installed that’s sort of taken for granted?
P.S. I’ve been using nifskope 2.0 dev 7 (on github). Blender 4.1, then 3.6, then 3.3 (on steam). niftools blender add-on 0.11 (on github). nif optimizer 3.2.0 (on nexus)
not sure how to share nif files on here, saw it somewhere but I don’t remember, all the articles are sort of blending together in my head.
I hope I’m doing this right, this is the 2nd time I’ve done something like this. 1st was on reddit like 9 hours ago. Just figured some of the articles I searched led here so might not be a bad place to ask.
Tried: Using nif optimizer to make Skyrim Special Edition meshes editable (by making them Skyrim Legendary Edition meshes instead), then turning them back once the edit is complete.
Expecting: Skyrim (special edition) creation kit to actually not crash whenever it so much as looks in the general direction of the file
Tried: Using a nif export and import addon to blender 3.6 and 3.3 to try and produce a completely custom nif file.
Expecting: Skyrim (special edition) creation kit to see the nif as untainted or something. I was also expecting an export without a hitch but the darn thing didn’t even want to do that.
Tried: Looking up tutorials on how to make a Skyrim weapon mod.
Expecting: Something to point me in the right direction.
Tried: Looking up relevant links to other people with similar or the same problems.
Expecting: Someone to have the same issue as me and have already posted about it where I can find it.
