I am trying to clone three hard drives using a StarTech cloning tool (hardware). The device returns the error: “Target Too Small.” I only clone one source to one target at a time.
Source Drive
- 1TB in Size
- Two Partitions… 499MB partition; ≈150GB partition; ≈750GB Unallocated
Target Drive
- 512GB in size
- I can partition/edit this drive however I want to in order to clone
- Example I have tried: 500MB partition; 155GB partition; remaining space is unallocated
Even after partitioning the target drive as stated above, I still get the error “Target Too Small” and it doesn’t allow me to even start the cloning process. I have tried many different ways of partitioning/formatting the target drive but it still gives me the same error.
I have tried:
- Leaving the target drive completely unallocated
- Creating the exact same partitions on the target that existed on the source
- Doing the exact same thing as above but allow for extra “padding” just in case there is more data
- Turning off BitLocker and all the GPOs related to BitLocker before cloning
- The exact same process on another computer with other source and target drives
I was expecting, at the bare minimum, that the StarTech device allow me to clone the source drive to the target drive given the fact that I am using the partition to partition based cloning option.
