I have the following set up:
I have 2 x nested ESXI 6.5 running on top of a Physical ESXI as:
esxione with 4 Network adaptors:
vmnic0 connected to vSwitch0 [Standard Switch]
vmnic1 connected to vSwitch0 [Standard Switch]
vmnic2 connected to DVSwitch [Distributed Switch] Uplink1 –>Active
vmnic3 connected to DVSwitch [Distributed Switch] Uplink2 –>Standby
esxitwo with 4 Network adaptors:
vmnic0 connected to vSwitch0 [Standard Switch]
vmnic1 connected to vSwitch0 [Standard Switch]
vmnic2 connected to DVSwitch [Distributed Switch] Uplink1 –>Active
vmnic3 connected to DVSwitch [Distributed Switch] Uplink2 –>Standby
I have a Windows VM [e1-dc1] on esxione with IP: 192.168.10.10/24
I have a Linux VM [e1-ol7] on esxione with IP: 192.168.10.21/24
I can Ping e1-dc1 to e1-ol7 and vice versa.
I have a Linux VM [e2-ol7] on esxione with IP: 192.168.10.20/24
I can’t ping e2-ol7 from either e1-dc1 or e1-ol7.
All these VMs are part of one and only port group in the standard switch where VLAN ID=1 on both the uplink port group and VM port group.
Also,
vmk0 in each esxi host is part of standard switch management-network port group. And they **CAN **ping eachother.
However, I have created vmk1 in each esxis, who are part connected to the DVSwitch portgroup, same as the VMs. I CANN’T ping vmk1–>vmk1 as well
I tried to tweak multiple settings on DV switch, but no luck.
